KayMuni

Khalid Khan, aka KayMuni, is a Birmingham, England rapper who delivers intense personal tales over brooding beats. His earliest singles appeared in 2021, and three years later his mixtape Signed to the T charted in the U.K.'s Top 40.Born in 2001 and hailing from Winson Green, a northwestern inner-city area, KayMuni self-released "Hoods Hottest" in May 2021, while "No Cap" arrived in October. His arrest the following month led to the rapper being served with a prison sentence of over nine and a half years for offenses related to drugs and firearms. Despite his incarceration, KayMuni released "Chat to Me" in September 2022, a teaser for his debut mixtape, Time Is Money. The November 2022 set featured cameos from KB and Marnz Malone, aka Double M, two contemporaries with whom he would continue to collaborate musically in the coming years. The two-part, stand-alone single "Jail Duppy" closed the year. Turning his focus from tales of prison and reflections of the street to analysis of a strained relationship, "Love Letter from the Trenches" was released to coincide with Valentine's Day 2023. Next, KayMuni guested alongside a cornucopia of talent on Cypher City's "Flashbacks Cypher." In June, he issued Time Is Money 2, which featured a guest spot from Mazza L20, just ahead of the Liverpool rapper going viral with "Murdaside." Fuck the Charts, a collaborative mixtape with KB, appeared that September, and he kicked off the new year with a dramatic, Fumez the Engineer-produced track. His profile took a further boost in February with a brief appearance on "Free KayMuni," a track from Potter Payper's U.K. number five-charting mixtape Thanks for Hating. The Barking rapper subsequently signed KayMuni to his 36TL imprint, which issued May 2024's Signed to the T, a U.K.-charting mixtape that performed particularly well in Scotland by reaching the Top Ten.
