Pangaea

Kevin McAuley, co-founder of the lauded Hessle Audio label, produces inventive, sometimes playful dubstep and garage tracks as Pangaea. First receiving notice for tracks like the haunting "Router" (2008) and the nutty "Hex" (2011), he released several EPs before making his full-length debut with the acclaimed In Drum Play (2016). Singles such as the club hits "Bone Sucka" (2018) and "Fuzzy Logic" (2022) sporadically appeared before Pangaea released his second album, the concise, energetic Changing Channels (2023). He has since teamed with Leonce for the Fabric-issued "Dusted" and has released the peak-time singles "Manía" and "Neuromance" (all 2025). McAuley founded the Hessle Audio label with David Kennedy (aka Ramadanman, Pearson Sound) and Ben UFO. His own Coiled (2007), a 12" of three tense and uncluttered tracks, was the label's second release. Its title track was licensed by Stefan Betke's ~scape label for the compilation Round Black Ghosts, released the same year as the excellent "You & I" (2008), the second Pangaea single. After a single for Hotflush, McAuley issued a self-titled double pack for Hessle that incorporated alternately eerie and sweet vocal samples, highlighted by the heavily echoed diva spotlight "Sunset Yellow." From 2011 through 2013, additional singles followed on Hessle, Hemlock, and his own Hadal imprint. Release, the first Pangaea album, was issued during that span, as was a dub remix of Depeche Mode's "Should Be Higher." McAuley mixed the 73rd volume of the Fabriclive series, released in January 2014. The debut full-length from Pangaea, In Drum Play, appeared on Hessle in October 2016. The breakbeat-driven "Bone Sucka" and more kick-heavy "You Know What's Up" were released in 2018. McAuley began pushing his music in a bouncier, more gleeful direction with subsequent singles "Like This" (2020) and "Fuzzy Logic" (2022). Changing Channels, a brisk seven-song set regarded as Pangaea's second album, arrived in 2023. McAuley remixed "Click" for Lost Souls of Saturn and Lvv Gvn in 2024, and he continued to pursue higher BPMs in 2025 with "Dusted" (producer with Leonce), "Manía" (featuring a hook from Jazz Alonso), and the hyper synth pop of "Neuromance."
