Heriot

Heriot is a British metalcore band renowned for their powerful live performances and innovative fusion of hardcore, industrial, doom, post, and death metal elements. While their early EPs leaned heavily toward sludge and hardcore, the addition of rhythm guitarist and vocalist Debbie Gough in 2019 introduced a new dynamic to the group, showcased in their assured and diverse 2024 debut album, Devoured by the Mouth of Hell.Founded in Swindon, England, in 2014 by lead guitarist Erhan Alman, bassist and vocalist Jake Packer, and drummer Julian Gage, Heriot issued their debut EP, Violence, in 2015, with World Collapse appearing the following year. Packer left for Bristol to attend university in 2016, prompting a three-year studio hiatus for the group. Heriot returned to normal activity in 2019 as a quartet with vocalist and rhythm guitarist Debbie Gough, whose wide-ranging sonic oeuvre helped push the group's sound in exciting new directions. 2020's remarkably heavy, industrial-tinged "Cleansed Existence" served as a relaunch for the band, who removed their early material from streaming services. 2022's Profound Morality continued in that vein, paring muscular hardcore with flourishes of post-metal and noise, and securing the group a dedicated fan base in the U.K. underground metal scene. Century Media took notice as well, and enthusiastically added Heriot to its roster the following year. Recorded with Sylosis frontman and ex-Architects guitarist Josh Middleton and mixed by heavy music producer extraordinaire Will Putney, the full-length Devoured by the Mouth of Hell arrived in 2024, masterfully combining both heavy and melodic elements.
