Following 2022’s Call to Arms & Angels—a "Covid album" that reflected a world in turmoil—British collective Archive appear to be heading back toward the light on their latest release, Glass Minds.

Founding members Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths admit they remain "terrified" by the current state of the planet, yet they have made a conscious choice not to succumb to panic. This sentiment is captured on the title track "Glass Minds" (placed as the opener immediately following "Broken Bits," an instrumental composed in Paris). Featuring the vocals of Lisa Mottram, who shares microphone duties on the album with Pollard Berrier and Dave Pen, the track masterfully evokes the sensation of treading on thin ice—or shattered glass.

Despite the tension, the group maintains a sense of optimism on sunnier tracks like "Pattern," the song that originally provided the spark for the project. The rock-infused guitars on "Look at Us" are notably devoid of despair, while "The Love The Light" perfectly encapsulates the band's shift in energy. Heralding a new world with "Shine Out Power" and "Heads are Gonna Roll," the group concludes what they describe as "probably our best album." © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
