Few artists have an innate sense of groove like Tom Misch, who has been a core part of the London music scene since his spectacular debut album, Geography, in 2018. Nevertheless, the multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter/producer has decided to hang up his groovy boots for his latest album, Full Circle. This album is more introspective, reflecting Misch's conscious step back from the limelight. (He announced on social media that the intensity of his success had "caught up with [him].") It comes as no surprise, therefore, that Full Circle is such a healing album.
"Sisters With Me" is a heartwarming tribute to Misch's sisters, with whom he unexpectedly lived with again during lockdown, while "Old Man" also has family at its core as the musician reflects on aging (he's only 30) and looking more and more like his father. With the sound of crashing waves and cars passing by in the background, "Running Away" and "Fear Can't Hurt Any More Than A Dream" feature rare vocal harmonies from Misch. On "Days Of Us," the spotlight is briefly stolen by saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi and a gorgeous string arrangement.
It's true, Misch has largely swapped his signature electric guitar for an acoustic for the rhythm sections on Full Circle, but diehard fans will be comforted by the bluesy solos that are tucked into the more stripped-back arrangements on "Flowers In Bloom," "Goldie," and "Sultan of Silence." And they can cling onto a vintage Misch groove that is present on "Echo From The Flames" and "Red Moon."
This isn't the record that fans were likely expecting, but that takes nothing away from yet another perfectly produced Tom Misch album showcasing guitar mastery and an expertise in chill-vibes curation. © Noah Mendel/Qobuz

Review: Tom Misch - Full Circle
