Since her 2024 EP, Three More Nights, and a collaboration with Gotts Street Park championed by Elton John, British artist Olive Jones has been carving out a soulful sound entirely her own, occasionally weaving in elements of rock, folk, and pop. Her debut album is immediately captivating, anchored by a vocal performance that effortlessly blends power with poise. Jones has a voice capable of elevating any material, even on more traditionally structured songs like "End of Time." The record’s immersive production highlights the diversity of the tracks, ranging from the radiant "Mary" to the more haunting "Only You," while minimalist arrangements on pieces such as "Colour on the Wall" allow her vocals plenty of room to breathe.
For Mary also features a timeless ballad, "Talk About Love," and the exquisitely delicate piano-and-strings arrangement of "Blossom Tides." While romance is a central lyrical theme, Jones remains deeply engaged with the world around her.
